####################################################################################################################################################
The International Balkan University, the Istanbul Technical University and the International Institute for Hazards and Engineering have the exceptional honour to invite researchers and professionals to present state-of-the-art papers on science and practice at the 1st International Conference on Hazards and Engineering (ICHE2020).

The conference will be held in the capital city of the Republic of North Macedonia, Skopje in the period 08 – 11 June 2020. The conference will be a unique forum where natural and manmade hazards will be considered from a scientific point of view and engineering solutions for reducing the risks related to these hazards will be examined. As “all in one conference”, special attention will be paid to climate change and pollution of the human environment, since the frequent occurrence of some of the individual hazards can be due to climate change and pollution. Civil violence in an urban community, as one of the more common hazards induced by the individual and collective behaviour of the people, will be viewed at the ICHE2020, as well.

The actuality and variety of the carefully selected topics will contribute to the exchange of opinions of experts in certain hazard areas for more successful dealing with them. The International Scientific Committee composed of renowned professors and scientists from around the world will make a successful selection of papers to be presented at the conference.

The Organizing Committee is looking forward to the coming of their old friends to the conference and their visiting Skopje again. We are waiting for the new participants to attend this international conference. Finally, it is to be mentioned that the organizing staff is ready to begin the preparations for the conference and show their organizational skills and hospitality.
Chairmen of the Conference,
Prof.Dr.M.Garevski

Panel Discussions
The aim of engineering tools for hazards risk reduction panel discussion will be an exchange of ideas, giving panelists, experts, and audience members the chance to discuss the topic of the conference. The discussion will be led by the moderator, and panelists will be the key lecturers of the conference. The moderator will start with a quick, five-minute, introduction of the topic and the panelists.
Then the panelists will start with presentations and reveal the possible ways to reduce the risk of hazards by using different engineering techniques. They will try to stimulate the audience to consider and suggest other possible solutions. And then, 25 minutes of curated questions from the moderator and 25 minutes of participants’ questions will end with a summary.

Pre/Post-Conference Trips

The pre/post-conference trips will include the following:
- Ohrid Trip + St. Naum Ohridski Monastery

The city of the immortal Ohrid is the sublime lakeside point that for many represents the culmination of the Macedonian experience, a kingdom of light and water, a repository of ancient ruins from Macedonia’s earlier kingdoms. Ohrid’s major attractions are all located within a remarkably concentrated and eminently walkable area, among and above the narrow streets of the Old Town lined with restaurants and cafés perfectly suited for relaxing in the cool summer evenings. Ohrid’s many café bars and nightclubs also make for a vibrant nightlife. As for the lake itself, it is so large and so deep that one might mistake it for a small sea. A full range of water sports, fishing and boating is available, and numerous churches alongside Ohrid’s lake shores make for fascinating side trips and walks. The wooded ridge above the lake’s eastern shore is largely taken up by the National Park of Galichica, an unspoiled wilderness ideally suitable for nature enthusiasts. The uniqueness of Lake Ohrid and the city’s historical architecture has been attested by UNESCO, honoring it with an official designation as one of the few places on the cultural institution’s list “World Inheritance”.
