SHORT NOTE
A NEW EARTHQUAKE INTENSITY SCALE
FOR CONCRETE BULDINGS
Prof. Ugur Kaynak Ph.D.(geophysics)
"I want to support your work, because I know there is a relation between earthquakes and lower atmosphere".

ABSTRACT

The “Intensity Scales” of ROSSI-FOREL, MERCALLI-CANCANNI, MERCALLI-SIEBERG, OMORI-CANCANNI and MEDVEDEV-SPONHAUER-KARNIK (MSK) were valid during 20th Century. The reasons of these rapid developments were the rapid differences of the conditions and demands. But the most useful one, the MSK Scale was not capable to solve the troubles between the rapid developed building technologies and earthquake damage types.

This scale aimed to solve the most frequent damage types of the most frequent building types, so called the concrete reinforced buildings. These types of damages also include the complex characteristics of the rapid growing cities located on the major earthquake belts in the world. But this new scale was based on some rational definitions instead of abstract definitions of the old ones such as “Some sensitive people will wake up” or “Some one can hear while driving”.
