Guidelines for Authors

Scope : The Arabian Journal for Geosciences (AJG) is the official refereed publication of the Saudi Society for Geosciences and is published biannually in January and July. AJG publishes various disciplines of earth sciences and related subjects in the form of original papers; review articles; case studies; short communications and book reviews. Manuscripts should be submitted in English only. Manuscripts will be sent to two reviewers. Reviewers are required to treat the manuscript confidentially. The Editor's judgment is final with regard to suitability for publication. Submission of a manuscript entails that it has not been published previously, that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere in the same form without the written consent of the society. Author instructions can be found at the website on the link : www.geoscience.org.sa. Editors may return manuscripts that do not meet these guidelines.

. Manuscript Presentation :

Authors are requested to submit their original manuscript and figures in triplicate to the Editor-in-Chief. Papers must be typewritten, double-spaced with wide margins on one side of white paper. Good quality printouts with a font size of 12 pt are required. The corresponding author should be identified (include a Fax number and e-mail address). Full postal addresses must be given for all co-authors. An electronic copy of the paper using MS Word 6 format should be submitted after proofs and final corrections. Pages are to be numbered consecutively and are to include all illustrative material, such as tables and figures, in their appropriate places in the text.

Text:

Follow this order when composing manuscripts: Title, Author(s), Affiliations, Abstract, Main text, Acknowledgements, References, Figure Captions and then Tables. Do not import the Figures or Tables into your text. The corresponding author should be identified with an asterisk.
Abstracts: Abstracts should be 300 words or less. An abstract should briefly state why the work was done, the method(s) used, the principal data, and the conclusions. The abstract should not use acronyms, uncommon abbreviations and references. The abstract should be a condensation and concentration of the essential information in the paper.

Illustrations:

Photographs, charts and diagrams are all to be referred to as "Figure(s)" and should be numbered consecutively in the order to which they are referred. They should accompany the manuscript, but should not be included within the text. All illustrations should be clearly marked with the figure number. All figures are to have a caption. Color illustrations will be accepted.

Tables:

Tables should be numbered consecutively and given a suitable caption. Footnotes to tables should be typed below the table and should be referred to by superscript lowercase letters. No vertical rules should be used.

Abbreviations:

The names of periodicals should be abbreviated in accordance with The World List of Scientific Periodicals. The metric or SI system sh used for all scientific and laboratory data; if, in certain instances, it is necessary to quote other units, these should be added in parentheses. Temperatures should be given in degrees Celsius. For weights and measurements, and where appropriate, abbreviations rather than words are to be used, e.g., cm, mm, m, km, g, mg, kg, min, %, Fig., et al., etc.

References:

All publications cited in the text should be presented in a list of references following the text of the manuscript. In the text refer to the author's name (without initials) and year of publication (e.g. "Since Peterson (1993) has shown that..." or "This is in the agreement with results obtained later (Kramer, 1994). For three or more authors use the first author followed by "et al.", in the text. The list of references should be arranged alphabetically by authors' names. The manuscript should be carefully checked to ensure that the spelling of authors' names and dates are exactly the same in the text as in the reference list. Communications and unpublished company reports are generally not listed in the References and are indicated in the text as “written communication” or “oral communication”. References should be given in the following form:

Thurber, C.H.(1983). Earthquake locations and three-dimensional crustal structure in the Coyote Lake area, central California, J. Geophys. Res., 88, 8226-8236.

Stoeser, D., and V. Camp (1985). Pan-African microplate accretion of the Arabian Shield, Bull. Geo. Soc. America, 96, 817-826.

Proofs:

Proofs will be sent to the corresponding author and should be returned within 48 hours of receipt. It is important to ensure that all of your corrections are returned to the editor in one all-inclusive response. Once the article is approved, subsequent corrections will not be possible. We encourage the authors to ensure their first communication is complete.

Off-prints:

Twenty five off-prints of each article will be provided free of charge. Additional off-prints (both hard copies and PDF files) can be ordered by means of an offprint order form supplied with the proofs.
